Functional Warm-ups
The purpose of a warm-up is to begin raising the body temperature, stretch the muscles, and move the joints, and get the energy pathways working so that the proper fuel is getting to your muscles.
A proper warm-up will prepare your body for the workout, and will make the work feel easier than it would if you started out cold, and help to prevent injuries.
Warm-ups are best when they are functional and they should target the muscles you plan to work.
Do not just place your clients on a piece of cardio equipment for 10 minutes, they can do that on their own, and many clients feel it is a waste of their time and money. Instead, give your clients a few bodyweight exercises and light plyometics to warm-up. It is simple, functional and different and it will help to set you apart from the masses.
For trainers, the warm up is a great time to build the relationship with their clients. You can easily stand out from other trainers by truly being involved with your clients entire workout, including the warm up.
