During your workout with a prospective client, you should be asking questions and gathering information. Asking about coffee and other unhealthy foods and habits are very naturally part of the conversation.

At $2-$5.00 a piece, there are less expensive, healthier choices out there. Not only does drinking unhealthy drinks and eating fatty food push our clients and prospects further away from their goals, it also cost them A LOT of money.  Money they can spend on personal training, which only helps them get closer to their goals.

So when a prospective client ever tells you that they can not afford training at $100.00 an hour, as they often do. If they are coffee drinkers, you can remind them of what they can give up and why. One cappuccino a day at $5.00 is $35.00 a week. Now you just need to find another $65.00 they are wasting on unhealthy crap and you can close the sale.

This presentation is most effective after the financial objection. The steps leading to it are:

  1. If a person says they can not afford it, determine if it is the only true objection.
  2. Isolate it by asking if there is anything else keeping them from buying training right now.
  3. Tell then you won't be insulted, but how much did they think training would cost.
Almost all of them will say $50.00 dollars, which is great news. When a prospect tells you it cost $50.00, and you can show them they are wasting another $35.00 a week on crap (and experience has taught me it is a whole lot more).

Now you only have to help them find another $15.00 a week to justify their purchase, or you can just ask them if they are going to let $15.00 a week, $2.14 a day keep you away from their goal?

Would you let $2.14 keep you from accomplishing your goals? Of course not, and neither will your prospects.
